Description
The park is lush and green. Alive with the sounds of birds calling to each other as they fly over the pond. You can see them gracefully perched atop trees and landing close to the pond’s edge as the flapping of their winds creates ripples on the water. The sounds are reminiscent of spring and everything coming to life.
South Park is a park located in the South Park district of The Hague, it is part of district Escamp . In 2011 the South Park received the status of conservation area. It is the first Dutch example of a public park. Natural History values are assigned to the park construction, the decoy, the Scheepstra and Ligthart Monument ( Ot and Sien ) and the entrance to the Veluweplein. The park was in the interwar built a make-work project. The design dates from 1908, when architect HP Berlage made the plan to extend Hague. The construction began in 1923, the official opening was in 1936. Pieter Westbroek , director of the Municipal parking service, and landscaper DF Tersteeg changed much by design. The core of the park consists of a large pond and playground. Around it are other, almost independent parks with educational and sporting facilities.
