Description
The car doors close and you are whisked through the chilled underground labyrinth of the Moscow Metro system. Built in 1938, this line spans 36.9 kilometres (22.9 mi). As the lights flicker ominously above and the man sitting in the corner looks up to stare at you with a cold grin, the train car begins to slow and you breath a sigh of relief, knowing soon you will be safe at home. Buttoning up your coat, you brace yourself for the cold burst of air that awaits you at the top of the station stairs. The Zamoskvoretskaya line contains many examples of original Moscow Metro architecture, and contains what may be the most photographed station on the entire network: Mayakovskaya.
