The motmots are a family of birds in the near passerine order Coraciiformes, which also includes the kingfishers, bee-eaters and rollers. These motmots have a call that is nasal, croaking and far-carrying. The Motmots mostly found in Yucatan are called the Turquoise-browed Motmot because of a turquoise stripe above the eye. It lives in fairly open habitats such as forest edge, gallery forest and scrubland. It is more conspicuous than other motmots, often perching in the open on wires and fences. From these perches it scans for prey, such as insects and small reptiles. These motmots may be looking for a partner. Soon, white eggs will be laid in a long tunnel nest in an earth bank or in a quarry or fresh-water well.
