Description
The whole town turns from sleepy into screaming as the unexpected wail of the WPS warning system echoes off of every building, barn, and hovel. Even the roosters become quiet when their high pitched songs are put to shame by the mechanical monster shouting from a rooftop. The dogs cover their ears and the little pigs cower in the corner, and all the people rush into their basements and local shelters, all except for farmer Joe, who fears nothing. The Whelen WS and WPS 3000 series were outdoor warning sirens produced from the 1980s to the mid 1990s. They were rotating sirens, capable of many signals and even a voice function. The only known models are the WS (Whelen Speaking) and WPS (Whelen Public Speaking) 3016. The WS model was voice capable, and the WPS capable of voice plus live broadcasting PA use. Its appearance is best described as a large rectangular speaker with 16 horns stemming out of the back, attached to a bar, all on a small rectangular box. The front has a cross section on the screen. They were popular sirens throughout the 1980s, being low on maintenance, and up to date. The rotator was directly connected to the motor, meaning they had to oscillate, rather than make full circles while rotating. The sirens were discontinued in the 1990s and replaced with the Whelen WPS 4000 Series.
