Windy Forest

The mighty wind washes over this sea of green, swishing the leaves in waves that resemble the movements of a stormy ocean. The forest critters become quiet and stay still in their little shelters while the roaring earth evacuates every bit of dust and debris from the forest floor. This is a majestic time in the woods, a time when we are all reminded of how small we are, how innocent and powerless we become when the great breath of earth begins to blow. In human civilization, wind has inspired mythology, influenced the events of history, expanded the range of transport and warfare, and provided a power source for mechanical work, electricity, and recreation. Wind has powered the voyages of sailing ships across Earth's oceans. Hot air balloons use the wind to take short trips, and powered flight uses it to increase lift and reduce fuel consumption. Wind is caused by differences in pressure. When a difference in pressure exists, the air is accelerated from higher to lower pressure.
