Several miles offshore, wind becomes a powerful component in not only the fairness of the weather, but also the roughness of the ocean surface. When considering transportation, wind at sea is essential for propelling vessels with sails, yet at varying degrees, wind can have effects on all types of boats as wave heights and speeds are affected by wind severity. Although at times unfavorable, strong sea winds can be beneficial as offshore wind farms provide considerable electric energy.
