Description
The corse crunching sound of the snow beneath your frost bitten feet is the only sign of life on this frozen white landscape. The horizon's edge lays flat and unbroken by any sign of humanity. Your trek through the winter wasteland has been one of the most fulfilling and challenging of your life, affirming your will to survive, but you are ready to go home. Perhaps just a few more miles and you will be safely warming yourself by the fire, that is if you are walking in the right direction. Maybe you should have worn snowshoes. Snowshoes work by distributing the weight of the person over a larger area so that the person's foot does not sink completely into the snow. In the past, snowshoes were essential tools for fur traders, trappers and anyone whose life or living depended on the ability to get around in areas of deep and frequent snowfall.
