Buzzing through the spectrum of sound waves and radio frequencies the little black box busies itself with finding a familiar voice out in the ether of electrified ideas broadcasting through the dark of night and over the silent lonely hills that stand in the way of connection to distant companionship. A walkie-talkie is a hand-held, portable, two-way radio transceiver. The first radio receiver/transmitter to be widely nick-named "Walkie-Talkie" was the backpacked Motorola SCR-300, created by an engineering team in 1940 at the Galvin Manufacturing Company. Typical walkie-talkies resemble a telephone handset, possibly slightly larger but still a single unit, with an antenna sticking out of the top.
