Pretty birds perform arial acrobatics as the morning mass commute slowly begins on this busy Portuguese part of the week. People start stirring into action long after the sky if full of frolicking little flyers, and only a few voices from the very early risers can be heard hammering out the first efforts of the day's work. Vila Nova de Gaia is a city in Portugal. It is well known for its "lodges" (locally known as "caves") where the world famous Port wine is stored and aged. The city existed under the Roman Empire as the city of Cale. It developed most likely from a preexistent Celtic Castro, or Neolithic settlement. With the moorish invasions in the eighth century A.D., the de facto frontier between the Islamic state and the Christian one came to rest here, around the year 1000. With the constant raids and counter-raids, the town of Cale, or Gaia, was deserted and most of its inhabitants took refuge elsewhere. After the conquest by Christians in 1035 the city was re-founded as Vila Nova de Gaia. This sound uses the following file from Freesound: http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=94913
