Description
All through the evening are the muffled sounds of someone selling soda or used cars combined with bullets and big explosions bouncing between your ears. Even the amazing news about a new Botox treatment isn't enough to excite your soul, but is just what you needed to experience some of the most frustrating and sleepless nights imaginable. You toss and turn endlessly hoping that exhaustion will eventually consume you and send you swiftly into some silenced paradise, but the bristling sounds of the television next door just won't cease. Some cases of insomnia are not really insomnia in the traditional sense. People experiencing sleep state misperception often sleep for normal durations, yet severely overestimate the time taken to fall asleep. They may believe they slept for only 4 hours while, paradoxically, sleeping a full 8 hours. The National Sleep Foundation's 2002 Sleep in America poll showed that 58% of adults in the U.S. experienced symptoms of insomnia a few nights a week or more. A survey of 1.1 million residents in the United States conducted by the American Cancer Society found that those who reported sleeping about 7 hours per night had the lowest rates of mortality, whereas those who slept for fewer than 6 hours or more than 8 hours had higher mortality rates.
