Train Platform

You stand patiently on the concrete platform, waiting for your train to pull into the relatively quiet station on this pleasantly sunny sunday afternoon. As you look around you see a conductor and other train staff taking a break to chat, and a few other passengers waiting for their ride like you are. In high-speed rail, passing trains are a significant safety problem, as the safe distance from the platform edge increases with the speed of the passing train. Several countries have laws that prohibit trains passing platforms above certain speeds (usually 200 km/h or 124 mph). Most stations of the Singapore MRT and the Hong Kong MTR have platform screen doors between the platforms and the tracks.
