Tortured Soul

The sinking silence falls through the endless expanse of nothingness, broken by the wails of some woeful wandering soul, sentenced to stand in the darkness for all eternity. No man or woman should endure such torture, and yet it is the very individuals in pain who have condemned themselves to limitless, ceaseless torment. You see, there is no escape from your deeds on earth. The pain you cause or try to forget will only be remembered later. Better to seek forgiveness, from others and from yourself, and be at peace, lest you discover when it's too late that only the black abyss is willing to hear your plea. Medieval theologians described the underworld as divided into four distinct parts: hell of the damned, purgatory, limbo of the fathers, and limbo of infants. The Limbo of Infants is a hypothesis about the permanent status of the unbaptized who die in infancy, too young to have committed personal sins, but not having been freed from original sin. Some who hold this theory regard the Limbo of Infants as a state of maximum natural happiness, others as one of "mildest punishment" consisting at least of privation of the beatific vision and of any hope of obtaining it.
