Times Square

The unparalleled experience of New York's meeting place has proven time and again to have the most powerful presence of any city center on planet earth. There is no vacation for the voices volleying between the streets; no shame in the loose tongued language and no shortage of brilliance shouted from the rooftops. Slowly drift along the seductive stream of this city's heartbeat and be entranced by the surprising softness of New York's stunning soundscape. Formerly named Longacre Square, Times Square was renamed in April 1904 after the New York Times moved its headquarters to what is now the site of the annual ball drop on New Years Eve. It was also this year that the first electrified advertisement appeared on the side of a building. Times Square is the only neighborhood with zoning ordinances requiring building owners to display illuminated signs.
