The call of the clouds captures every casual motion along the muddy plain and moves the masters of earth and sky to huddle under cover until the massive machine of our natural world wanders wistfully away. Watch the world turn dark but don't fret, the true will of the wind is to leave you awash with all the precious parcels necessary to partake in the precipitous picnic that is the powerful parting of the sky. The sudden increase in pressure and temperature from lightning produces rapid expansion of the air surrounding and within a bolt of lightning. In turn, this expansion of air creates a sonic shock wave which produces the sound of thunder. The first recorded theory for thunder is attributed to the Greek philosopher Aristotle in the third century BC, who speculated that it was caused by the collision of clouds.
