Description
The warm summer night breeze causes ripples of commotion in the open field. Up above, you can see the full moon and all the constellations. Lying down on your back, you hear the insect’s calls come to life among the wildflowers in bloom and overgrown grass. The breeze carries upon it a symphony of nocturnal sounds orchestrated by the myriad of insects.
Most insects produce sounds when they are agitated, when they are eating, or to serve a specific purpose, like scaring off predators or pursuing a mate. Insects are diverse and numerous. There are an estimated 1 million species of insects on the planet and an estimated 10x more yet to be identified.
