Description
The crisp, new snow is coming down heavily and it quickly blankets the ground beneath your feet. Under your umbrella, you are protected from its onslaught, but the beauty of it is surrounding you completely. As you walk along, the branches of the trees become laden with the weight of snow, and every once in a while, the branches quiver under the pressure of the wind and the snow. You keep walking, mesmerized by the snow globe effect taking placing right before your own eyes.
Snow is precipitation in the form of flakes of crystalline water ice that fall from clouds. Since snow is composed of small ice particles, it is a granular material. It has an open and therefore soft structure, unless subjected to external pressure. Snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Types that fall in the form of a ball due to melting and refreezing, rather than a flake, are known as hail, ice pellets or snow grains.
