Description
Here is winter's familiar melody; soft sounds of splashing snow, scrapes against the sidewalk, birds whistling to a breeze that carries a slight chill through your bones. This is the season's meditative chore. A solitary time spent out in the cold where your nose gets frozen and your beard crisp with ice, but your heart warmed by the sight of a freshly shoveled entryway. A snow shovel often has a very wide sideless blade that curves upward attached to a long, straight handle. It is designed as much for pushing the snow as for lifting it. In the 1800's shovels were called turf cutters and spades. They had cylinder-shaped wooden handles and metal triangle points at the end to dig with.
