Description
Drenched in chilling meltwater, the forest floor soaks up the passing moisture as roots and thirsty critters creep to the brook's edge to grab a lick or two of the purest form of wetness known on this good green earth. A brook is characterized by its shallowness and its bed being composed primarily of rocks. Some brooks and creeks and small streams can be very dangerous after large amounts of rain have fallen in a short period of time, such as thunderstorms. The point at which a brook emerges from an underground course through unconsolidated sediments or through caves is called a spring. A brook can, especially with caves, flow aboveground for part of its course, and underground for part of its course.
