Description
You are dashed downhill upon the wooden deck of this swiftly sliding sled as slushy snow slips beneath the metal skates on which you are skillfully keeping yourself seated. Bouncing over breaks between snow and ice, you hold on with all your heart and shake your head at the crazy notion that this sport is safe enough for your soft and priceless skull. The word sled comes from Middle English sledde, which itself has the origins in Old Dutch word slee, meaning "sliding" or "slider". A toboggan is a simple sled which is a traditional form of transport used by the Innu and Cree of northern Canada. A toboggan differs from most sleds or sleighs in that it has no runners or skis on the underside. Most sleds are used on snow or ice but in some cases, mud, grass, or even smooth stones make a good surface for sleds.
