Description

Subtle movements in the air from warm breeze and bright green birdie give way to high pitched calls and frantic movements of bursting energy and commotion. These sweet little flyers frolic between branches and along the soft earth always looking for some small thing to snap up in their beaks as if they were some kind of military machine continually seeking its next target. If you turn your head too quickly you might miss the smile and squint of one of these little birds begging you to drop some seeds or a small piece of bread. The genus Serinus is a large genus of birds in the finch family Fringillidae found mostly in the Afrotropical region with some outlying species in Europe and Asia. The genus contains several species groups including canaries, seedeaters and the African siskins. The majority of species are small to medium sized birds with green and yellow, often streaky plumage though there are a few notable exceptions.
