The Seoul Metropolitan Subway is the world's most extensive subway system by length, the world's second largest subway by number of stations after New York City Subway and the world's second most highly used subway after Tokyo Subway, consisting of 19 lines serving the Seoul Metropolitan Area. Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation was established in 1994 to operate the Seoul Subway lines 5, 6, 7, 8 in Seoul, South Korea. The corporation operates a total of 201 subway trains at 148 stations on lines 5-8. The operation intervals are from 2.5–6 minutes during rush hours and 5–10 minutes during non-rush hours. The combined daily ridership of subway lines 5-8 is 2,037,000.
