Red Deer

The spectacular sounds of something truly wild are the wailing whispers of these deer as they dance through the open fields of a hidden forest, far away from the prying eyes of almost everybody. Finding a mate or fending off an encroaching predator depends heavily on the haunting sounds summoned by these magical beasts. Their horns hang high in the sky, hailing the gods to come down to earth and hunt them like the old earthen warriors used to. The Red Deer is one of the largest deer species. It inhabits most of Europe, the Caucasus Mountains region, Asia Minor and parts of western and central Asia. It also inhabits the Atlas Mountains region between Morocco and Tunisia in northwestern Africa, being the only species of deer to inhabit Africa. Red Deer have been introduced to other areas including Australia, New Zealand and Argentina. In many parts of the world the meat (venison) from Red Deer is used as a food source.
