Rain in the Woods

"When is it going to stop raining?" Little Billy asks as you sit, waiting, listening to the heavy rain pour down on your tent. Not a great start to your weekend of camping but it can only get better. A typical forest is composed of the overstory (canopy or upper tree layer) and the understory. The understory is further subdivided into the shrub layer, herb layer, and also the moss layer and soil microbes.
