Wrenches have existed for many centuries, but saw a great blossoming of development starting in the nineteenth century. The first patent for a wrench was granted in 1835 to Solymon Merrick. This tool has multiplication ratios up to 4000:1 and is primarily used anywhere accurate torque is required on a nut and bolt, or where a stubborn nut needs to be removed. These wrenches have very little vibration, and excellent repeatability and accuracy.
