Description
Take a break from the day with a friendly game of ping pong. The game was conceived of in the 1880s in England by upper-class Victorians. Like the game of tennis, but indoors, everyday objects were used as the equipment. A line of books would be the net, the rounded top of a champagne cork, and a cigar box lid as the racket. During the early 20th century the game was banned in Russia because they believed it had an adverse effect on players' eyesight. London hosted the first official world championship in 1927, and it became an official Olympic sport in 1988.
