Pacific Ocean

While standing on the beach, you sink your toes into the sand as the water rushes up to your ankles before receding back into the foamy waves. For the brief moment before the water returns to your feet, it leaves behind trails of seaweed and undiscovered seashell treasures half concealed by the sand. You look out into the vast horizon; the sea seems to continue forever, blending into a dark blue universe that continues until it touches the sky. The Pacific coast stretches for miles on end. Encompassing nearly a third of the world's surface, the Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth's oceanic divisions. The vast ocean's name derives from the Latin name Mare Pacificum, "peaceful sea."
