Microwave ovens use microwave radiation to heat water and other polarized molecules within the food. In 1945 a U.S. patent was filed for a microwave cooking process and an oven that was placed in a Boston restaurant for testing. The new oven was shown at a trade show in Chicago, and helped begin a rapid growth of the market for home microwave ovens.
