Description
There is a bright and lively quality to the sweet summer song of this lovely little bird. Its excited expressions overshadow the forest's other feathered inhabitants whose calls are mere chatter in the background. Step into a fresh new morning or lay down into a deep night's sleep with the spirited sound of this bird's unique serenade. Nightingales are named so because they frequently sing at night as well as during the day. Its song is particularly noticeable at night because few other birds are singing. Early writers assumed the female sang when it is in fact the male. Poets chose the nightingale as a symbol because of its creative and seemingly spontaneous song. For some romantic poets, the nightingale even began to take on qualities of the muse. Their name has been in use for well over 1,000 years.
