Description

Mud splashes all around, hot and steamy. The brown mess gets all over the place as rivers of wet smoke rise into the air like the aftermath of some great battle. Mud splashes all around, hot and steamy. The brown mess gets all over the place as rivers of wet smoke rise into the air like the aftermath of some great battle. Don't stand too close or you will have a searing mess all over your face and clothes. The earth has belched up a boiling brew for the forest to taste. Take the time to frolic in the froth of liquids from far underground and remember what runs beneath your feet. The term mud volcano is used to refer to formations created by geo-excreted liquids and gases. Approximately 1,100 mud volcanoes have been identified on land and in shallow water. It has been estimated that well over 10,000 may exist on continental slopes and abyssal plains. About 86% of the gas released from these structures is methane, with much less carbon dioxide and nitrogen emitted. The largest mud volcano structures are 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) in diameter and reach 700 metres (2,300 ft) in height. Recently, possible mud volcanoes have been identified on Mars.
