Montevideo

People, birds, and automobiles define a chorus of movement in this old south american city, situated between Brazil and Argentina along the south atlantic ocean. Montevideo is the largest city, the capital and chief port of Uruguay. It is the only city in the country with a population over 1,000,000 and is known in latin america for having a high quality of life. In 1776, Spain made Montevideo its main naval base for the south atlantic. It then fell under heavy British influence from the early 19th century until the early 20th as a way to circumvent Argentine and Brazilian commercial control. The city hosted all the matches of the 1st FIFA World Cup in 1930 and is home to five football clubs.
