Description
The lazy waves of this Scottish loch are gentle and calm, yet within their easy stride against the shore is hidden the secret wildness of the highlands. A brazen beauty that can only be discovered if you peak beneath the green glades of bracken and allow your spirit to be absorbed into the landscape like a willful lover resting before the moment of passion. Take the time to discover this raw and beautiful land. Loch Tay is a freshwater loch in the central highlands of Scotland, in the district of Perthshire. The loch, and many of its surroundings, feature in the traditional Scottish 'Loch Tay Boat Song'. During the Iron Age, people lived on defensible, man-made islands on the loch, called Crannogs. More than 20 submerged crannogs have been identified. An example has now been reconstructed on the south side of the loch at the Scottish Crannog Centre. It is a long narrow loch of around 14 miles (23 km) long, and typically around 1 to 1½ miles wide. It is the sixth largest loch in Scotland by area and over 150 metres (490 ft) deep.
