Light Trails

The sun slips behind near black clouds, but the remnants of light linger on, coursing through the eternal ether in long trails that signify the struggle between light and dark, spinning through the air like glowing snakes scattering in the night, searching for somewhere to hide. You close your eyes and enjoy the absence of sun for a moment, savoring the silence and sanctity of eternal night. Light or visible light is electromagnetic radiation that is visible to the human eye, and is responsible for the sense of sight. Primary properties of light are intensity, propagation direction, frequency or wavelength spectrum, and polarisation, while its speed in a vacuum, 299,792,458 meters per second (about 300,000 kilometers per second), is one of the fundamental constants of nature. Light, which is emitted and absorbed in tiny "packets" called photons, exhibits properties of both waves and particles. This property is referred to as the wave–particle duality. The study of light, known as optics, is an important research area in modern physics. The Indian Buddhists developed a type of atomism that is a philosophy about reality being composed of atomic entities that are momentary flashes of light or energy. They viewed light as being an atomic entity equivalent to energy, similar to the modern concept of photons, though they also viewed all matter as being composed of these light/energy particles.
