The spinning blades and motor are a familiar sound, settling your nerves and sending your senses into a deep relaxing state. Soon you will need a nap, but first you must finish your fight against the threat of an overgrown and ghastly garden lawn. The first lawn mower was invented in England in 1827. It was designed primarily to cut the lawn on sports grounds and expensive gardens, as an alternative to hand tools. It took ten more years and further innovations to create a machine that could be worked by animals, and sixty years before a steam-powered lawn mower was built. Lawn tractors are a popular alternative for large lawns. The operator is provided with a seat and controls on the mower and literally rides on the machine.
