Description

There is a majestic elegance to the simple sound of the still waters wavering against a fly fisher's leg as he snaps the rod forward, flirting with the curious fish floating around the water's surface. This perfectly peaceful place has been the preferred respite for the elite and egalitarian alike. Fishing is an ancient practice that dates back to, at least, the beginning of the Paleolithic period about 40,000 years ago. Discarded fish bones and cave paintings show that these foods were important for survival and consumed in significant quantities. The Egyptians had implements and methods for fishing and these are illustrated in tomb scenes, drawings, and papyrus documents. Some representations even hint at fishing being pursued as a pastime. Fly fishing is most renowned as a method for catching trout and salmon. In fly fishing, fish are caught by using bait of artificial flies that are cast with a fly rod and a fly line.
