Description
Ocean washing up against sand and rock, shifting from crashing wave to whispering water receding from land's edge. A beautiful balance unbroken for millions of years, the tide travels back and forth without contemplation of, or care for the creatures which pass along its shimmering shores. The Kugelbake is an early timber lighthouse constructed from buoys and placed on the beach at Cuxhaven, Germany around 1703. Built of wood, its lifespan is never very long, as wood rot, storms and flooding are very destructive, so that it needs to be replaced or repaired every 30 years. Since 2002, the Kugelbake has been under protection as a historic monument. The current structure dates back to 1945.
