Description
The delightful sounds of a gentle January sleet falling from the sky frame perfectly the midday calls of the forest's feathered friends. Although the cold air still steams your breath, there is a hope in this weather, as the sleet signifies the warming of the skies and the coming sun of spring. Sleet is precipitation composed of rain and partially melted snow. This can occur where the temperature in the lower part of the atmosphere is slightly above the freezing point (0 °C, 32 °F). Professional meteorologists tend to shy away from using the term sleet under any circumstances, but radio and television weather reporters use it frequently. In the United Kingdom, the term wintry showers is used to refer to sleet.
