An overwhelming milieu of horns, humans, and jackhammers, is a typical testament to the energetic pace powering the emerging and explosive existence within India's great growing cities. Find yourself especially energized by the truly strident sounds of this city's soundscape. Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II who ruled from 1699-1744. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the world with an estimated population for 2011 of over 7 million. In 1853, when the Prince of Wales visited Jaipur, the whole city was painted pink to welcome him, and some remain pink to this day. The city was planned according to Indian Vastu Shastra (Vedic planning for the comfort and prosperity of the citizens), and is considered by many urbanists to be one of the best planned cities in the world.
