Description
The gentle movement of the ocean and wind washes over the calm Dutch coast as hungry birds hover overhead and people on the docks diligently do their day's work at the shipyard. Enjoy the everlasting restfulness of this serene and sensuous seaside soundscape. IJmuiden is a city in the Dutch province of North Holland. The city came into existence in the 1870s when the North Sea Canal was dug, connecting the Amsterdam harbors to the open sea. Before the canal, the area had been a virtual wasteland. In 1851 the whole area was sold to the entrepreneurs Bik and Arnold, who finally set into motion plans that had been in existence since 1626. The first shovel hit the ground on 8 April 1865.
