Description

The afternoon ascent of attitudes as they swiftly flow from work to home is an integral part of today's modern landscape. The scene of silvery highways acting like the veins of a great social body is at the heart of commerce in our slowly waking world. Enjoy the late day dance of destiny and deny no longer your most important part in its production. Modern highway systems developed in the 20th century as the automobile gained popularity. The world's first limited access road was constructed in Italy in 1922 (see autostrade). Construction of the Bonn-Cologne autobahn began in 1929 and was opened in 1932 by the mayor of Cologne. The Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 provided appropriating $25 billion for the construction of 41,000 miles (66,000 km) of Interstate Highways over a 20-year period in the United States. Reducing travel times relative to city or town streets, modern highways with limited access and grade separation create increased opportunities for people to travel for business, trade or pleasure and also provide trade routes for goods.
