Description

The chorus of chirps fills the air with a magical delight that brings a smile to your lips and a deep peace within your soul. The little blackbirds hide amongst the dense green foliage of the forest, singing their hearts out, hoping to attract a mate as you lay in the grass dreaming of flying through the air and digging up tasty worms for your chicks. It is not clear why the name "Blackbird", first used in 1486, was applied to this species and not to one of the other common black British birds, such as the Carrion Crow, Raven, Rook or Jackdaw. However, in Old English, and in modern English up to about the 18th century, "bird" was used only for smaller or young birds, and larger ones such as crows were called "fowl".
