Description
This crisp morning dawn brings into the colorful sky majestic flocks of honking geese that glide through the air with the full grace and beauty of our planet's nature. In the background can be heard the soft crashing of the california coastal waves onto Sherman Island. The term geese is a plural form of the word goose, which applies to the birds in general, and to a female in particular. The word gander is used for a male in particular. Young birds before fledging are called goslings. A group of geese on the ground is called a gaggle; when geese fly in formation they are called a wedge or a skein. The fossil record shows that different species of true geese have been around since about 10 million years ago in the Miocene age.
