Description
Your stomach growls and mouth waters as the golden yolk of a finely fried egg simmers in the skillet. The scented steam of egg and butter wafting up into your nose and over your tongue are overpowering. Fried eggs and toast are traditionally eaten for breakfast in English-speaking countries, but are eaten at differing times in other cultures. A runny egg served over white rice is a popular lunch dish in some Latin American countries. The Japanese call it medamayaki, literally 'fried eye', comparing its yolk and white to the iris and the white of an eye. This style of egg preparation has had a decline in popularity as fears of salmonella poisoning have become more prevalent.
