Fluorescent Light

Take the office with you! This familiar sound captures the essence of those focused beams of light, unwavering in their eternal glow. The fluorescent light is a glass tube filled with mercury vapor that lights up when given an electric charge. Invented in 1896 by Thomas Edison, the light was perfected in both Europe and the U.S., and became popular as a cheap form of illumination. General Electric began selling them in 1938, and by 1951 it was the dominant source of lighting in the U.S. Light the lamp in your head with the bright sound of a fluorescent light.
