Description

The sizzling silvery mass of insects swarms over every inch of anything edible for miles and miles around. A few weary ones wander away to fondle a cool green leaf out of the sun. A moment's rest from the frantic pace it usually keeps, time to clean and look around, as its short life quickly cascades through the dark door of time. It takes only moments for a whole day to wander away in this simple state of searching and scanning that is the fly life. True flies are insects of the order Diptera, containing an estimated 240,000 species of mosquitoes, gnats, midges and others, although under half of these (about 120,000 species) have been described. Flies have been used in mythology and literature. In Biblical fourth plague of Egypt, flies represent death and decay. In Greek mythology, Myiagros was a god who chased away flies during the sacrifices to Zeus and Athena, and Zeus sent a fly to bite the horse Pegasus causing Bellerophon to fall back to Earth when he attempted to ride to Mount Olympus. In the traditional Navajo religion, Big Fly is an important spirit being. This sound uses the following file from Freesound: http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=110913
