Description

The song of spinning steel sweeps through the subsurface of the milky mixture being whipped wildly within the mixing bowl. The vibrations making their way up your arm are tickling the tiniest hairs on your head, just as the sweet smell of the sugary sauce being stirred taps your sweet tooth and starts saliva surging into your mouth. A mixer is a kitchen appliance intended for mixing, folding, beating, and whipping food ingredients. In 1870, Turner Williams of Providence, R.I., invented the first hand egg beater. The first electric mixer was invented in 1908 and sold by KitchenAid. Before mechanical advancements, a tool known as a whisk was used. A bundle of twigs fastened together made an effective whisk; often the wood used would lend a certain fragrance to the dish. An 18th century Shaker recipe calls for peach twigs to be used.
