Description

The deep dark depths of a swirling sea come crashing upon the shore of this sandy cove, capturing the creative and chaotic ways the earth shapes our world. Waters wash away the old and spray the beach clean with wind whipped froth and strong ocean currents. The crabs and sea creatures call this place home, a heavenly haunt for all the water dwellers, but for you and I it can be a beautiful place to bask in the sun, or a terrible torrent that threatens to wash away our world. Dungeness is a headland on the coast of Kent, England. Dungeness is also the name given to a "village" situated along the beach, and to an important ecological site on the same location. It is one of the largest expanses of shingle in the world. It is of international conservation importance for its geomorphology, plant and invertebrate communities and birdlife. The short-haired bumblebee, Bombus subterraneus, declared extinct in the UK nearly a decade ago, but which has survived in New Zealand after being shipped there more than 100 years ago, is to be reintroduced at Dungeness. It is planned that the first bees will be introduced in the spring of 2010. This sound uses the following file from Freesound: http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=104673
