Description

The delicate, animal-like sputter of the aquatic motor is reminiscent of when a little metal kitten once sat at your feet and asked you to rub its hot diesel belly. The delicate, animal-like sputter of the aquatic motor is reminiscent of when a little metal kitten once sat at your feet and asked you to rub its hot diesel belly. Even the most stolid of muscle bearded sailors could hardly stand not to relax to this alluring and hypnotic sound excursion, a trip for the mind to far away places that only a seafaring adventurer would know. Steam engines were first used but have mostly been replaced by two-stroke or four-stroke diesel engines. The reciprocating marine diesel engine first came into use in 1903 when the diesel electric rivertanker Vandal was put in service by Branobel. Diesel engines soon offered greater efficiency than the steam turbine, but for many years had an inferior power-to-space ratio. About 99% of modern ships use diesel reciprocating engines.
