Description
A fascinating flow of sound saturates the safe and familiar space within the mighty white walls of the world's malls, found anywhere and everywhere, as temples that testify to humanity's healthy and quite heavenly shopping spirit. An even and smooth soundscape, this place is sure to put even the most serious of spenders to bed. The first mall ever built is located in The City of Damascus, the capital city of Syria, and dates to the seventh century. The Grand Bazaar of Istanbul was built in the 15th century and is still one of the largest covered markets in the world, with more than 58 streets and 4,000 shops. The Oxford Covered Market in Oxford, England opened in 1774 and still runs today. The fully-enclosed shopping mall was pioneered by the Austrian-born architect and American immigrant Victor Gruen. This new generation, eventually called malls, included Northgate Mall, built in north Seattle, Washington, USA in 1950.
