Description
You sit sipping a cup of tea and watch the rain fall outside your window. Suddenly, the steady rain changes into a downpour and huge drops of rain are splashing on the outside of the window. The sound is continuous and intense as it splatters against the glass. The downpour carries with it a fragrance of spring rain, and brings a cooling sensation to the electrically charged atmosphere. It cleanses everything in its path with the power of water and wind.
Rain is liquid water in the form of droplets that have condensed from atmospheric water vapor and then precipitated—that is, become heavy enough to fall under gravity. Rain is a major component of the water cycle and is responsible for depositing most of the fresh water on the Earth. It provides suitable conditions for many types of ecosystem, as well as water for hydroelectric power plants and crop irrigation. A heavy fall of rain is known as a downpour.
