The grinding, guttural gallop of this military master marching across the earth is more than enough to muster up visions of a vast wasteland where bombs, bones, and burnt butterfly wings litter the brown soil, and hardened soldiers slice through the muck, on their way to their next brave encounter. There have been three tanks of the Challenger series serving in the British military since WW2. During an operation, one of these main battle tanks was hit directly by eight rocket propelled grenades from close range and a MILAN anti-tank missile, and was under heavy small arms fire for hours. It was back in operation six hours after repairs.The latest model is equipped with a 120 mm (4.7-inch) 55 calibre tank gun, which is made from high strength Electro Slag Remelting steel.
